1. Automatic Filling Machines

    • Volumetric Type of Liquid Filling Machine (Time-Gravity): A more controlled version of gravity filling. A computer controls the valve opening time to dispense a specific volume. It’s not measuring weight, but a calculated volume over time.

      • Best Application For Gravity Type of Liquid Filling Machine: Consistent, low-viscosity liquids.

      • Advantages of Gravity Type of Liquid Filler Machine: Good balance of speed and accuracy for simple liquids.

    • Pressure Type of Liquid Filling Machine: Used for carbonated beverages. The container and the filler are pressurized to the same level as the product tank to prevent the CO₂ from escaping (fobbing). The liquid is then pushed into the container.

      • Best Application For Gravity Type of Liquid Filler Machine: Beer, soda, sparkling water.

      • Advantages Pressure Type of Liquid Filling Machine: Essential for preserving carbonation.

 

 


2. Automatic Powder & Granule Packaging Machines

  • Principle of Automatic Powder & Granule Packaging Machines: These are the most challenging to get accurate due to factors like compaction, aeration, and particle size. They focus on consistent weight or volume.

  • Sub-Types:

    • Auger Fillers: The “corkscrew” method. A rotating screw (auger) inside a tube moves a precise amount of powder. The number of rotations determines the amount dispensed.

      • Best For: Most powders (flour, milk powder, spices, protein), granules (instant coffee, sugar), and some semi-solids (shortening).

      • Advantages: Versatile, can be very accurate with modern weight-feedback systems.

    • Net Weight Fillers: The “gold standard” for accuracy. Each container is weighed empty, the product is dribble-fed into it, and the filling stops once the target weight is reached.

      • Best For: High-value products where giveaway is costly (coffee, tea, nutritional supplements).

      • Advantages: Extremely precise, regardless of product density variations.

    • Vacuum Fillers: The container is sealed against a filling head. A vacuum is drawn, which pulls the product from a supply hopper into the container.

      • Best For: Fine, non-aerating powders.

      • Advantages: Simple design, minimizes dust.

 


2. Automatic Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) Machines

The automatic form-fill-seal machines are highly integrated systems that create the package around the product, offering tremendous efficiency and material savings soluations.

Automatic Vertical Form-Fill-Seal (VFFS)

  • Principle: A flat roll of plastic film (or laminate) is pulled downward over a “forming tube.” The film is shaped into a tube around this former and sealed vertically. The product is dropped through the tube into the forming bag. Horizontal jaws then seal the top of the filled bag and simultaneously seal the bottom of the next bag, cutting them apart.

  • Visualize: Imagine a tube of toothpaste. The VFFS machine creates the tube, fills it, and seals the cap end, all in one continuous motion.

  • Best For: Bags! Chips, snacks, frozen vegetables, coffee, pet food, candy, hardware (screws, nails).

  • Package Styles: Can produce pillow packs, gusseted bags, block-bottom bags.

Automatic Horizontal Form-Fill-Seal (HFFS)

  • Principle: The film is fed horizontally. The product is first placed on the lower web of film. Then, the upper web is laid over it, and the two webs are sealed together around the product’s profile. The individual packages are then cut out of the web.

  • Visualize: Think of a blister pack of pills or a candy bar. The product sits in a cavity, and a lid is sealed on top.

  • Best For: Structured packs. Blister packs (pharmaceuticals), candy bars, cheese slices, trays of cookies or meats, medical devices.


3. Automatic Cartoning Machines

The automatic cartoning machines is another kinds of machines for packaging, which designed to handle pre-manufactured flat cardboard cartons, erecting them, inserting the product, and closing them.

Automatic Vertical Carton Box Packaging Machine

  • Principle for carton auto pack machins: The machine picks a flat carton from a magazine, opens it into a square or rectangular tube (with the top and bottom open), and pushes the product downward into it. The top and/or bottom flaps are then tucked and glued or locked shut.

  • Best For: Multiple items or fragile products. A classic example is a carton of 12 soda cans or 6 bottles of beer. Also used for vaccine vials, wine bottles, and cosmetic kits.


4. Automatic Bottling & Capping Machines

  • Rinsers/Unscramblers:

  • Cappers/Sealers:

    • Function: Places and tightens caps onto containers.

  • Pressure-Sensitive (PSL) Labelling Machines:

    • Principle: Use rolls of self-adhesive labels on a backing paper. A mechanism (a wipe-on pad or a blow-air nozzle) peels the label from the backing and applies it to the container.

    • Best For: Nearly everything – bottles, jars, boxes, vials. Extremely versatile.

  • Sleeve Labelpasting Machines:

    • Working Principle: A pre-formed plastic sleeve (like a tube) is opened by the machine, dropped over the container, and then heat is applied, causing it to shrink tightly to the container’s contours.

    • Best For: 360° decoration. Beverage bottles, cosmetic containers, full-body promotional labels.

  • Inkjet Printing Machines:

    • CIJ (Continuous Inkjet): A continuous stream of ink is broken into tiny droplets, which are electrically charged and deflected to print onto the packaging. Non-contact and very high speed.

    • TIJ (Thermal Inkjet): Like a desktop printer. Heat creates a bubble that forces a droplet of ink out of a nozzle. High resolution, great for clear barcodes and logos.

  • Laser Coding & Marking Machines:

    • Principle: A laser beam alters the surface of the packaging material—either by changing its color (foaming), removing a top layer (engraving), or bleaching a pigment.

    • Best For: Permanent, high-contrast marks on plastics, metals, and glass. No consumables (ink) required.

Automatic Flow Wrappers

  • Principle: The product is placed on a sheet of film. The film is wrapped around the product, and a longitudinal seal is made along the bottom. The two ends are crimped and sealed, creating a “pillow pack.”

  • Best For: Individual items. Candy bars, soap bars, magazines, travel-sized products.

Automatic Shrink Wrapping

  • Principle: The product(s) are placed on a tray or simply grouped together. A loose bag of plastic film is placed over them, or they are conveyed through a film curtain. The package then passes through a heat tunnel, which causes the film to shrink tightly around the product.

  • Best For: Multi-packs and bundling. A 6-pack of water bottles, a tray of canned goods, DVD multipacks, software boxes.


7. Automatic Palletizing & Depalletizing Machines

Automatic Palletizing & Depalletizing Machines

  • Automatic Palletizers:

    • Principle: Take individual cases, bags, or bundles from a conveyor and stack them in a specific, stable pattern onto a pallet.

    • Types:

      • Conventional Palletizers: Large machines that use a layer-forming head to build a complete layer and then place it on the pallet.

      • Robotic Palletizers: An industrial robot arm with a gripper (or vacuum head) picks up products and places them directly onto the pallet. Highly flexible for mixed SKUs and various patterns.

  • Automatic Depalletizers:

    • Principle: The reverse process. They take full layers or individual containers off a pallet and place them onto a conveyor to be fed into the packaging line (e.g., unloading empty bottles or cans).
